You can navigate to different areas of CIRBI using various menus and tabs.
Left Menu
The left-hand menu lists pages to which you have access, such as the dashboard. You can minimize or expand the left-hand menu by clicking the arrows icon.
Breadcrumb
As you navigate CIRBI, some pages allow you to navigate back to the top level of the menu you’re currently in by clicking through the breadcrumb links on the top of the page.
User Details
Your title, name, and current CIRBI role are displayed in the upper-right corner of the page.
Notifications
You can view your CIRBI notifications by clicking the bell icon. The counter on the icon displays the number of unread notifications you currently have.
Note that notifications you receive in CIRBI are also sent to your registered email address. You are sent submission-related notifications when your account is in Registered, Pending, Locked, or Active status. If you're the PI on a submission, submission-related notifications are sent to you when your account is in any aforementioned status or Inactive status.
When you click the bell icon, your four most recent notifications are displayed. To mark all notifications as read, click the “Mark all as read” link.
To view all notifications, click the “+# More Notifications” link. The Your Notifications page opens.
The Your Notifications page is divided into new and read notifications. The counter on each tab displays the number of new or read notifications you have. New notifications are displayed by default. To view notifications you’ve already read, click the Read Notifications tab.
In a tab, the left-hand menu lists all notifications. Each notification is listed with its subject line and when it was sent. If a notification contains an attachment, a paper clip icon is displayed.
To view a notification, click its subject line. The full message text is displayed. Clicking a notification marks it as read.
If it contains an attachment, the attachment name is displayed at the bottom of the notification body. You can view or download an attachment by clicking the three dots menu to the right of the attachment name and then clicking View or Download.
Searching Notifications
You can perform a keyword search of your notifications by entering a search term in the Search field and pressing Enter. To open advanced search options, click the gear icon.
In the advanced options, you can additionally filter by notification creation date by clicking the From and To fields and then entering dates using the calendar pickers that appear. To execute an advanced search, click Apply. To reset the filters, click Reset Filters. To cancel, click Cancel.
Account
You can hover over the person icon in the upper-right corner to view options related to your account or to log out of CIRBI.
Change Role
If you have been assigned multiple CIRBI user roles, you can click Change Role to switch between them. On the role page that is displayed, click another role to use with CIRBI. Areas of the application you can access may differ depending on which role you are currently using.
The role name is listed in the Role column and the role type is listed in the Type column.

When you're logged in to CIRBI with Advarra SSO, a grid icon appears in the upper-right corner to the right of the user menu on any page in CIRBI. You can click this icon to navigate to the Advarra One homepage.
Application Footer
The application footer displays information about who to contact or where to go if you have CIRBI-related questions, including:
- Product Support Information: The hours of operation of CIRBI Product Support (formerly Helpdesk), displayed in U.S. Eastern time.
- Toll-Free Number: The CIRBI Product Support toll-free phone number.
- Email: The CIRBI Product Support email address.

Session Timeout
CIRBI sessions expire after 30 minutes of inactivity (for example, not navigating around the application or refreshing the page). After 28 minutes of inactivity, the system prompts you to confirm that you want to continue the session. If you don't click OK within two minutes, the session expires and you're logged out of CIRBI. If you're using CIRBI in multiple browser tabs or windows, continuing the session or allowing the session to expire in one browser is applicable to all others.
Additional Tips and Tricks
-
Downloading Documents: When a document link is displayed in CIRBI, you can click on it to automatically download it to your computer's Downloads folder. If you want to specify a different folder to which it should be saved, right-click on the document link and then click "Save link as."
-
In the unlikely event that a potentially malicious file has been uploaded in submission activities or forms, the system automatically prevents you from downloading the file. In this scenario, the file name is view-only, and a warning icon is displayed to indicate the file's potentially malicious nature.

Activity Windows: In the upper-right corner of a submission activity window (such as Edit Contact and Notifications), options to minimize, expand, or close the window are displayed. Note that if a submission activity window is open your browser, it's automatically closed when you navigate away from the submission and to a different CIRBI page.
